| John's Goals & Vision: I was first drawn to the idea of reducing the impact we are making on the Earth in the mid 90's. As my remodeling business grew, I gained a better understanding of just how much unused space we have in our homes, and the amount of wasted energy that we go through trying to keep them comfortable. I got more involved in trying to make a difference in 1997, when I visited an eco-focused community outside of Douglas, AZ. I had the opportunity to help with, and learn about the wonderful world of sustainable building development using straw bale, paper-crete, recycled materials, and passive solar design - all combined with the necessities to make comfortable, efficient, small (approx. 300 sf.) homes. I have been blessed with "green thinking" ideas ever since. I've believed for some time that we need to reduce the impact we are making on the earth, mainly for the practical matter of reducing the pollution we all can see, feel, taste and smell everywhere we go, and the effects it has on everything - including us. I do think that with better, more efficient use of the resources we have been given, we can make a long lasting difference. The recent volatility and increases in the price of energy as of late, and the realization that we cannot all afford massive houses, highlights the practicality and need for increased conservation, better dwelling "space utilization" and smarter product ideas. The trend toward smaller - efficient homes, with more people living in them is inevitable, although I'm not proposing we all dwell in 200 square foot homes to be conservative, but my goal is to help make that a realistic option if we choose to do so, and help make the small homes and spaces we do have a better place to live by tapping into the vastly unused space that exist in nearly every home. You too can realize the what the potential of this double duty, space creating furniture can offer: the Double Space Bed. We will strive to produce the Double Space Bed here in the U.S., and use environmentally low impact techniques/materials, be competitive, and offer quick turnaround custom orders and affordable products. |
