| FREE STANDING PIECE OF FURNITURE / MEASUREMENTS The Double Space Bed (DSB) can be placed anywhere (including against walls with windows), and oriented head or side to wall. Two bed platform / column configurations are available to help fit your needs. The DSB doesn't need to be mounted to a wall, ceiling or floor like many other "space saving" beds, making it ideal for apartments where altering the dwelling's surfaces is undesirable. DSB's dimensions: Overall height is adjustable between 7'6" to 8'6", width x length - twin 42" x 94" / twin XL 42" x 100" / full 56" x 100" / queen 62" x 100" / king 79" x 103" (king size available 2 - 3 months after initial production starts). Bed platform ceiling height avg. (up = of 6'6" to 7'6" / down at sleep position = 18" to 40"). Avg. top of mattress height 30" to 52". This height range will accommodate most furniture arrangements below. No ladder needed for access!! OPEN SIDES, OPEN FEEL The Double Space Bed's 4-column/post design leaves your room with an open feel. With the bed up, the bed platform-ceiling is exceptionally high (6'9" avg.), leaving plenty of usable standing room below. When the bed is lowered, the abundance of overhead room and the 3-sided DSB configuration gives it a further sense of open space. The DSB can be placed in front of walls with windows - typically without obstructing the view. When using the bed in sleep -position, there's no climbing up a ladder, and no headaches from bumping into the ceiling like a loft bed. USE ANY STYLE OF STANDARD SIZED MATTRESS Any style mattress will work with the DSB - you can even use your own favorite mattress without having to buy one with the Double Space Bed, unlike many other "space saving" beds on the market today. Even heavy memory-foam mattresses will work, in fact there is an approximate 200 lb. weight limit on the mattress (which fits almost all beds made today). The only limiting factor on mattress loft (or height) is the height of your ceiling (the dimensions given above are figured using a 9" thick mattress; a thicker mattress will extend above the furniture). SIMPLE, EASY TO USE MANUAL MOVEMENT The DSB uses a virtually silent, non-electric patent pending movement system that allows easy movement with minimal force. Simply pull the bed down to use. Release the automatic latch and push back up when done - takes about 5 to 10 seconds. There is an quick and easy adjustment for different mattress weights and seasonal bedding needs. We are working on an electric motor assisted model of Double Space Bed that will allow those with disabilities to easily raise and lower the bed with a push of a button. The motor assisted model will have the same Balanced Movement System, thus having the same safety features as the standard model. There will be a 3 - 6 month delay (after initial production begins) for availability of the motor assisted model. A "GREEN / ECO-FRIENDLY" PRODUCT As an important component of design, the DSB has many "green / earth friendly" features: 1) The creation of 25 to 40 sf. of new usable space, allowing better utilization of dwelling space, and future dwelling size design. 2) Built to last a lifetime (or two). The DSB is not another "throw away" product that is ultimately made for the landfill. Along with the repairable / replaceable (if damaged) parts aspects, this becomes an important eco-friendly component. 3) Manufactured with a rigid inner framework and flat outer (furniture) panels that are easily packaged to reduce shipping weight and size, and reduce waste due to damaged goods from production and shipping. Plus, many components for manufacturing are obtained from local / regional sources. Some of the heavier components will be obtained by your local installer from companies near you - thus significantly reducing shipping weight (by approx 40%) and the associated pollution. 4) The bed can be made with FSC lumber, bamboo / renewable or recycled material exterior panels. 5) Low, or no VOC finishes can also be used. 6) A KIT (consisting of the inner framework, mechanical components & assembly parts) will be made available for the do it yourself carpenter, small business cabinet shops or other manufacturers (to be combined with their own outer panels and trim to make a complete DSB unit). This will offer an alternative to shipping the heavy panels around the country, thus reducing associated pollution issues. This will also offer business opportunities to 100's of other companies that already produce furniture & cabinet products. CUSTOMIZATION / ACCESSORIES The DSB offers the ultimate in customization with its outer mounted (furniture) panels offering a wide variety of looks - from a Base model with metal corner trim and insert panels, "Green" models made earth friendly panels, to higher-end models with raised panel hardwoods. The only limited factor is your imagination. There is also an unlimited variety of supplemental furniture (furniture that is under the bed, in the alcove) that can be made to match your DSB. Accessories will be available including lighting set-ups, between the columns shelving, media bins, flat screen TV mounting hardware, etc. BUILT TO LAST A LIFETIME (OR TWO) / SAFETY FEATURES The Double Space Bed is built with heavy duty industrial movement components that are rated at a multitude of their given weight load, and has an inner frame system that allows removal of the outer furniture panels (if repair is needed in the event of damage). . The DSB has proprietary built-in safety features, making accidental movement (or "falling") nearly impossible. In addition, there are no exposed moving parts, and theres a built-in automatic latch (when lowered), allowing easy mattress or bedding changes, while avoiding unintentional rapid upward movement (a problem typical of wall beds). THE COST OF SPACE The Double Space Bed directly delivers 25 to 40 square feet of new space to you. It does this by allowing the bed to occupy the same space as the furniture below. In the US alone, this space averages between $99 and $1,163 per square foot (Charlotte, NC and Manhattan, NY - source: RPX monthly Nov. 2007). That's $2,475 to $45,560 in added value of new space, offsetting most, all, or multiple times the DSB purchase price. PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION The DSBS will require professional installation, or be installed by a skilled handy-person or homeowner. Installation instructional video and manual will be available for download here, or instructional DVD and manual will be sent with the product upon request. MADE IN USA Production of the DSBS will be done in Tucson, Arizona. The bulk of materials that are slated to be used are US made (approx 75% of total dollar value). We hope to increase that figure as the sales commence, and large quantity orders, with lower prices can be made. |
